Welcome

Welcome to Salt Lake City

Almost thirty years ago, our dream had its beginnings when Salt Lake City first bid to host the Olympic Winter Games. In the decades that followed, our city and its people have come to recognize the hard work, the commitment, the persistence and the drive required to turn that Olympic dream into reality.

Just as it takes time for an athlete to become an Olympic Champion, so it takes time to truly develop the vision and then implement the change of what is necessary to become an Olympic city.

Now, as we seek the honor of hosting the XIX Olympic Winter Games of 2002, the first of the Twenty-first Century, we feel confident about offering the infrastructure of a large city coupled with the ruggedness of our surrounding Rocky Mountains.

Representing a community of over one million people, we are committed, ready, able and eager to host the Olympic Winter Games of ice and snow. Indeed, our dream is the Olympic dream, to take part for the glory of sport while upholding the high ideals of the Olympic Winter Games. Salt Lake City stands ready to welcome the world.

With great pride, the people of Salt Lake City submit to the International Olympic Committee our Candidature File to host the XIX Olympic Winter Games, 2002.
