Our Vision for the Future

The people of Salt Lake City are honoured to submit the city's candidacy for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. They firmly believe that the unique qualifications of their community and environment merit consideration by the members of the International Olympic Committee.

Salt Lake City, the capital of the State of Utah, is in the heart of a distinctive region known as the Intermountain West. Winter sports are an important element of the life style of those who inhabit this region.

The enthusiasm of the men and women of Utah for the Olympic Winter Games is demonstrated by their authorization of the expenditure of state tax revenues for the construction of a Winter Sports Park, close to Salt Lake City, which is nearing completion and will serve to train athletes for the Olympic Games and beyond.

The activities of the Salt Lake Bid Committee are privately funded by local businesses and individuals. A broad base of support consists of large and small donors representing all segments of the population. Private funding of popular causes has been a tradition throughout the pioneering history of the community.

The people of Salt Lake City value hard work, care of the environment and sportmanship. They respect the Olympic Movement and admire its ideals. They are united in their resolve to host the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in a manner that will do justice to and exceed the expectations of the International Olympic Committee.
